Shopfront Installation in Gloucester

Gloucester's commercial centre sits around one of England's great cathedrals, and the historic cross of Eastgate, Westgate, Northgate, and Southgate streets forms the heart of the city's retail offer, following a street pattern that dates back to the Roman city of Glevum. Eastgate Street in particular retains a strong Victorian and Edwardian shopfront character, with ornate cast-iron and glazed frontages that Gloucester City Council expects new shopfront work to respect where a building sits within the city centre conservation area or carries listed status. We prepare heritage-sensitive designs for these premises and manage the planning process, which is a regular part of our work in this part of the city.

Gloucester Quays represents the city's most significant modern retail transformation, converting the historic Victorian dock warehouses along the canal basin into a major outlet shopping and leisure destination. This regeneration project has brought a genuinely different shopfront environment to the city, one where converted warehouse buildings — many retaining their original brick, cast-iron columns, and loading-bay openings — have been adapted for contemporary retail use. Shopfront installation here requires sensitivity to the industrial heritage character of the docks while still delivering the modern glazed frontages that outlet retailers expect, and we've carried out a number of installations balancing both requirements.

Westgate Street and Southgate Street have a more varied commercial character, mixing historic buildings near the Cathedral precinct with more recent development further from the immediate historic core, and shopfront requirements vary considerably from one unit to the next depending on a building's age and conservation status. Northgate Street serves as a busy general retail street with a good mix of independent and national retailers in buildings of varying vintage.

Barton and Tuffley, to the south of the city, have their own established neighbourhood high streets serving substantial residential communities, home to a strong independent retail and takeaway presence reflecting the area's diverse community, and we install standard aluminium shopfronts, roller shutters, and automatic doors here regularly without the conservation constraints of the historic core.
